A teenager has been arrested following a councillor’s nephew being stabbed to death after a “machete fight” outside a Tube station.
Wazabakana Elenda Jordan Kukabu was found with stab wounds near Dagenham Heathway station at 11.47pm on Friday (May 5).
Police and London Ambulance Service attended the scene, but the 18-year-old died from his wounds.
A post-mortem for the Romford boy on Sunday (May 7) gave the cause of death as a single stab wound to the chest.
Metropolitan Police have now confirmed that a boy, 15, was arrested on suspicion of murder in Colchester, Essex, during the early hours of Tuesday (May 9).
He was also arrested on suspicion of a separate violent disorder offence, the Met said.
The teenager currently remains in police custody.
It was with great sadness that this afternoon I learned that my nephew, Jordan, 18, had been stabbed to death in Dagenham last night. His mother is inconsolable. A 20-year-old man, who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released with no further action. However, he was also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and has been released on bail for this offence.
In a previous appeal the Met said a second man, 20, was taken to hospital after being stabbed – but his condition is non-life threatening.
Detective Chief Inspector James Shirley, from the Specialist Crime Command, said: "My thoughts remain with the young man’s family and friends.
“Dedicated detectives have been working around the clock since this tragic incident as we strive to identify and apprehend those responsible for killing Jordan.
“Our investigation is making significant progress, including the arrest of a 15-year-old boy in the early hours of Tuesday, 9 May.
“Local people have provided us with information, which together with forensic enquiries and analysis of CCTV is enabling us to build a picture of what happened on Friday night.”
