A blaze in a Rainham industrial estate was at a ‘suspected cannabis factory’, the London Fire Brigade has said.
Local people were urged to shut their windows and doors after heavy smoke billowed from the fire in an industrial unit.
The London Fire Brigade was called to Marsh Way at 8.21am this morning (May 6).
Half of the first floor of a two storey industrial unit was destroyed by fire.
Station Commander Alan Bendell, who was at the scene, said: "There's a lot of heavy smoke in the local area so residents living nearby are advised to shut doors and windows this morning."
Fire crews from Wennington, Dagenham, Barking, East Ham and surrounding stations were at the scene and had extinguished the fire by 10.35am.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is now under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
