A post office in Romford has opened its doors once again after being shut for four months.
Located in Brentwood Road, the shop has been undergoing major building work since January to extend its size and offerings.
The post office is now operational again, with new postmaster Ganesh Balasubramanian at the helm. Councillor Judith Holt, of St Alban's ward, was present at the opening yesterday (May 3).
The refurbished store has the post office counter alongside the retail pay desk and will remain open for more hours.
Those living in the community now have the flexibility to drop in their mail between 7am and 10pm every day.
The previous postmaster and mistress retired in December after nearly 40 years.
Ganesh claimed the reaction of visitors to the new-look store has been “Wow!”.
He added: “It was a very small shop with very limited retail and now it is three times the size and I have greatly been able to extend the retail range."
Cllr Holt said: "We are very pleased to welcome Mr Ganesh to the local community. The shop looks a treat and I'm sure it will be much used and valued."
Mohammed Islam, Post Office network provision lead, said the new post office “looks great”.
He said: “The branch was temporarily closed for the building work to take place, but now the community will benefit from a bigger, better, modern shop and post office."
