London Ambulance Service was called at 8.37am on April 19 to reports of a collision between a lorry and a car in New Road at the junction with Wennington Road.

They sent a number of resources including three ambulance crews, medics in two fast response cars, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager attended the site of the accident.

London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

Two patients were treated at the scene and one of them is now being treated in hospital.

Despite the best efforts of medics, a woman driving the car did not survive.

New Road remains closed both ways from B1335 Wennington Road to B1335 Sandy Lane following the crash.

The owner of Dinky Cars, Steve Preston, said the road is still cordoned off by police.

He said: "I wasn't here in the morning but I had trouble getting in because they shut the roads off. It is still shut off now."

The police are still making enquiries to inform the woman's next of kin.
