The person spearheading a Romford-based LGBTQ+ social club has described the changing attitudes in Havering as “heart-warming” ahead of its first public event.
Kaleidoscope was established last summer to provide a safe and alcohol-free space for the local LGBTQ+ community.
Carrie Kendall, the club's community leader, said at the time: “I felt that this is something I was lacking as a teenager, so I figured why not try to set something up?”
Kaleidoscope has now unveiled plans for Romford Rainbow, a free event supported by Havering Council which “aims to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, and celebrate the local community”.
The event will include activities such as badge making, music and a film screening of Wild Angel by independent filmmaker Zara Woolf, about a young woman discovering her bisexuality.
Carrie said it has made her “very excited” to be part of a “growing LGBTQ+ community”.

"It’s heart-warming to see the change in attitudes in Havering,” she added.
Romford Rainbow will be held in Romford Market on March 25, from 10am to 4pm.
For those interested in joining Kaleidoscope, the club is run every first Tuesday of the month, in the bar area of Premiere Cinemas from 5pm to 7pm.
