The former South Street Co-op site in Romford could become a new Asda Express pending the approval of a premises licence.
Asda announced last year that it is looking to open 300 Asda Express stores across London, Wiltshire, Essex and Surrey by the end of 2026.

The convenience stores are smaller than the main Asda supermarkets, though will stock around 3,000 products and include a range of hot and cold ‘food for now’ options from Asda and partners including Leon.
In a release, Asda said the target of 300 Express stores does not include the Co-op sites it is in the midst of acquiring. This deal is currently going through a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) review process.
A spokesperson for Asda confirmed the South Street site was not one of those acquired directly from Co-op and does not fall under this review process.
Instead, they said it is pending the approval of a recent application for a premises licence submitted to Havering Council, the consent of which would enable Asda to sell alcohol from its proposed store.

Representations by any person or responsible authority on Asda’s premises licence application must be made in writing to Havering Council by February 21.
