Plans for two new three-storey housing blocks at a brownfield site in Hornchurch are back - a year after a similar scheme was thrown out.

Developer Ramos Estates wants to build a mix of four one-bed and four two-bed homes on the Station Lane spot, hidden behind the Driving Standards Agency and so not visible from the road.

The application details how two blocks are proposed, with all eight properties to be listed for private sale.

The homes could occupied by the end of next year dependent on council approval, it adds.

A total of five car parking spaces are planned, up from the one currently available, with 16 cycle spaces.

A similar proposal was refused by Havering Council in October 2021, for reasons including concerns of how the flats would fit into the local environment, and a failure to make the homes accessible.

Ramos Estates said it has now addressed all such concerns.

A spokesperson said: “The proposal complies with planning policy at national, regional, and local levels, all of which emphasise the urgent need for more housing on suitable land in urban areas.”

They added effort has been put in to design the development “to reflect the character of this part of Hornchurch, and has been sited to ensure that there will be no detrimental impact on the locality in general and adjoining properties in particular”.

If approved, work on the development is expected to begin in June 2023, and to be completed by December that year.
