More officers, weapon sweeps and a focus on women’s safety are among police priorities for Romford town centre after a man was stabbed outside the station.
A 23-year-old man was taken to a major trauma centre after he was discovered with stab wounds in South Street, following reports of a fight on Sunday, October 30.
His condition has been confirmed as not life-threatening.
Supt Lisa Butterfield has since told the Recorder keeping people safe in the town centre “is our focus”.
She said this is enforced via a combination of “an increased number of officers allocated to the town centre team, investment in later patrols, focus on women’s safety and weapon sweeps – all in the areas the public tell us are a concern for them”.
Supt Butterfield said there also exists a “very strong working relationship with local authorities, who are equally as invested in making Romford safer”.
The recently-opened welfare hub is one example of partnership in the town centre, a one-stop-shop established collaboratively by groups including the Met Police, Havering Council and Network Rail.
Enquiries remain ongoing regarding the incident on October 30.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 1518/30Oct.
