A dog was left with his eye ball hanging from his socket after an attack by a Staffordshire bull terrier.

Kieran Hughes says that his three-year-old bichon frise, Freddy, could lose the sight in his left eye after the incident at King George’s Playing Field in Collier Row on Thursday August 1 at 8.45pm.

Kieran, from Ambly Way, Collier Row, said: “I am just absolutely shocked about what has happened.

“I don’t understand why the dog did that and I will be very upset if Freddy loses his eye sight because he is just a defenceless little dog.”

Kieran’s wife, Kirsty was walking Freddy, with her mother, when the she says the dog appeared from nowhere.

The dog started attacking Freddy and latched on to his left eye.

They only managed to get the Staffordshire bull terrier off of Freddy, when the owner ran up and kicked him, before making off.

Kieran said: “The owner didn’t even stop.

“My wife is just traumatised by the whole thing.

“She had to take the next day off of work and she says that she keeps on getting flashbacks about what happened.”

He added: “I wasn’t there at the time, but I am just shocked, I just don’t understand why the dog behaved in that way.”

The pair managed to take Freddy to the emergency vets where he had an operation to put his eye ball back in place.

But they have been told that they will have to wait until next week to find out if there has been any permanent damage to his eye and if his sight can be saved.

Kieran said: “We have had Freddy from when he was nine weeks old and I have never seen him like this.

“It is sad to see him like this because he has always been a very fit and healthy dog.”
