Police have named the two men who died following a collision with a bus in Romford as Henry Keller and Colin Graham Hicks.
Mr Keller, known as Harry to those close to him, and Mr Hicks lived in the local area.
The men, who were in a civil partnership, were both aged 66.
Police continue to appeal for information after the pair were killed following a collision on Friday in Western Road, near to the Liberty Shopping Centre.
A spokesman for the Met said officers were called at 2.20pm to reports of a collision involving a double-decker bus and two pedestrians.
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service also attended but both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said their next of kin have been informed, and post mortem examinations are scheduled to take place at Queens Hospital in Romford tomorrow.
Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit, based at Alperton traffic garage, are investigating the incident.
They believe there were a large number of witnesses at the scene, including those on the bus involved and another one that was passing at the time of the incident, and are urging anyone with information to contact investigators on 020 8842 1817, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The bus stopped at the scene and the driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has subsequently been bailed to a date in late January, pending further investigation.
