A new solar park with the capacity to power almost 5,000 homes for a year could be created in Upminster.
Plans have been submitted for panels to be installed on land adjacent to Clay Tye Farm which could produce 15.93 Megawatt peak (MWp) of renewable energy.
Developers Green Switch Developments are behind the application, and if successful, the park would create enough energy to power 4,779 “average-sized” homes for a year, reducing 7,695 tonnes of carbon.
The application specifies there will be “minimal noise, waste and pollution” from the 2.4 metre panels, while all existing trees and hedgerows will remain untouched.
In addition, a viewing area has been proposed with seating area and information boards for passers-by.
A public consultation garnered little attention, and a decision will be made by December 8.
