Lord looking further up the table

Romford assistant manager Mark Lord says his side are targeting a top-10 finish in Ryman North following their 2-1 victory over Barkingside at Ship Lane.

Joe Scott hit a 77th minute equaliser before Chinedu Mckenzie snatched a late winner to give Boro their first win since November 10.

Lord feels there was an inevitability about his side going behind to a Luke With strike, having dominated much of the game, but is delighted with the way Romford responded.

“I’m very pleased because we outplayed them in the first half – outclassed them,” said Paul Martin’s deputy.

“We deserved to be leading and I said to the lads at half time that the writing was on the wall for us to lose 1-0.

“Then we went 1-0 down and to be fair we didn’t create as much as in the first half, but they stuck in there and turned it around.

“The subs changed the game, which was good to see because the fans were getting restless.”

Lord singled out Akwasi Marfo’s display for special praise, adding: “It was an all-round team effort and I couldn’t fault them, but I thought Akwasi did well in a slightly different role. He got on the ball well and caused some problems.”

Romford are now 17th in the table and Lord is keen to use the weekend’s win as a platform to progress further up the league, starting with an away trip to Brightlingsea Regent this Saturday.

“We want top 10. Me and Paul have done it year in, year out here, and for a team that doesn’t pay the players, finishing in the top half would be a real achievement!”

However, Boro’s assistant boss has bemoaned the erratic nature of his side and is hoping they can find some consistency with the return of manager Paul Martin in the coming weeks.

When asked what Saturday’s win will have done for the team’s morale, he added: “We’re so hot and cold and we never know which side is going to turn up. We’re hoping this continues and we can get back-to-back wins, but of course it doesn’t always work out like that.”
