Not only has teenage swimming sensation Amy Marren gained a place on Team GB for the Rio Paralympics 2016, she can also add A-level success to her bow.

The swimmer, 18, was unable to collect her results at The Campion School, Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch due to training in Manchester before flying to Rio.

But that did nothing to stop headteacher Keith Williams from expressing how proud he was of her.

He said: “Amy has done really well in getting an A and a B and she will go onto study geography at Loughborough University.”

Swimming since the age of four, Amy became inspired after watching Ellie Simmonds OBE, a four-time Paralympic champion swim to greatness.

By coincidence, Ellie shot to fame winning her first Paralympic medal aged 13 and it was at this age that Amy took part in the London 2012 games.

Speaking to the Recorder in May about her hopes for Rio, Amy said: “I want to take the experience that I have from London – it’s a real advantage.”

Amy has been driven to succeed despite being born without her right hand.

She continued: “If I had two hands I wouldn’t have gone as far as I have. My hand has helped me, not inhibited me.”

Mr Williams added: “All of us here at Campion wish her well for the Paralympics.”
