A couple from Collier Row have created a Halloween maze in their back garden complete with ghosts, skeletons and all things spooky.

This is the fifth year that Darryl and Karen Andrews, have set up a spooktacular maze to raise money for charity.

Trick or treaters can have a go at the maze for one night only with prizes for those who can get to the end.

Darryl said that growing up he wasn’t a massive fan of Halloween, but as he got older he has been won over, and created the maze because his friends boasted that they weren’t scared of anything.

How wrong could they be.

Darryl said: “It’s really really popular with trick or treaters and I know that people from as far as Basildon and Harlow are going to come this year.

“My friends said that I wouldn’t be able to scare them but that didn’t last long!

“Last year we had a queue down the street for people to take part.

“It’s just a bit of fun and we enjoy doing it, lots of the children enjoy it and it is great seeing them take part.

“We raise money for a different charity every year, and we have a donation bucket at the end for anyone who would like to make a donation.”

He said it takes weeks for them to create the maze, and that friends and neighbours also help to build it.

Others help by dressing up as scarecrows, skeletons and “all diffent types of monsters” and becoming “scarers” in the maze.

For the younger trick-or-treaters, there is a Scaredy Cats and Children’s area and if you don’t want to be scared while walking through the maze, then you can choose to be accompanied by an escort.

Depending on the weather, he has both enclosed and sheltered areas complete with a creepy cave at the end where sweets are handed out.

This year the maze will be raising money for Greenwich and Bexley Hospice as they looked after one of his friends family members.

The maze will be at the Andrews’ back garden in Boxmoor Road, Collier Row from around 5.30pm today. (Wednesday, October 31).
