The community came together to commemorate Armistice Day across the borough.
Romford held its main service today in the Market Place, where hundreds of people gathered.
Schools also held their own events, including Drapers’ Brookside Junior School, in Dagnam Park Drive, Harold Hill.
The school coincided its official opening with Armistice Day and guests included deputy mayor Cllr Barbara Matthews.
Branfil Primary School, of Cedar Avenue, Upminster, unveiled a plaque to commemorate air raid warden Frank Garwood, who died during the Second World War after he was fatally wounded in a raid.
The warden’s post lay where the school’s new playground sits, which has been named the Garwood Courts in memory of him.
Members of Frank’s family were among those who attended the event.
