A fire engine from Romford Fire Station was dispatched to the scene where a car was engulfed in fire.
The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed, but appears to have come from the bonnet of the car.
It took emergency responders just thirteen minutes to put out the flames.
South Street has been closed in both directions between Oldchurch Road A1251 and Brentwood Road, whilst the incident was dealt with and the area made safe.
Pictures from the scene showed the car surrounded by a cloud of thick smoke.
