A man has been arrested in connection with an incident which appeared to show women being racially abused in Romford town centre.

Yesterday evening (April 21), police arrested a man, 55, on suspicion of racially aggravated public order offences.

The arrest was in connection with an incident in South Street which occurred at around 4.05pm the day before, police said.

In a video shared to social media, a man appears to use threatening and racist language towards a group of women walking along the high street.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson previously said the incident was being urgently investigated and treated as a hate crime.

They added that officers would be speaking to the women.
