A man accused of murdering a pensioner at Harold Wood station will not face trial until 2025.
Bernard Fowler, 87, was killed on Tuesday morning (February 27).
He is said to have been on his way to buy the local paper.
Sekai Miles, 22, of Brent Cross, Hendon, appeared at the Old Bailey this afternoon (March 1).
There was some confusion about what his name was – on court lists his name is given as Sekai Miles, though the British Transport Police (BTP) named him as Miles Skai.
Judge Alexia Durran settled on referring to him as Mr Miles.
In the short hearing, Judge Duran set the provisional trial date as January 2, 2025.
Miles will be asked to enter pleas on May 24.
In a statement released through British Transport Police, Bernard's family said: “Bernie was a dearly loved brother, father and grandfather who had been living in the area for over 20 years.
“He was a quiet, gentle man who lived alone but who, over the years, had helped many of the residents in his local community.
“The family are devastated by the news of his death. He didn't deserve to be attacked in such a brutal way just going out to get his local paper.
“We ask that people respect our privacy at this time."
