A crime scene was in place around a Tesco Express in Romford at the weekend after a security guard was reportedly attacked by a man.
The incident took place after the guard tried to catch an alleged shoplifter on Saturday (August 19) at the store in South Street, police confirmed.
Video clips on social media showed the shop being sealed off by police at around 10.30am.
London Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

A spokesperson for Met Police confirmed the man fled following the assault.
No arrests have been made so far and enquiries into the incident continue.
A witness who saw the incident unfold said on Facebook that “the security guard got set about and took away in an ambulance”.
